AN ACT to minimize the unnecessary use of non compostable packaging in the New York State Public School system and reform the process by which school lunches are packaged and served to students, by imposing a 5% tax deduction for each school lunch that is served using compostable materials. This deduction will decrease by 1% every year for the first five years that this law is in place, thereby creating an incentive to use compostable materials earlier rather than later This Bill presents an effort to become more environmentally sustainable and reduces excessive generation of non-compostable waste.
